The shingle "exposure" is how much height of the shingles will show when overlapped by the next course. When installing #1 18" WRC shingles for roofing, the maximum exposure for a normal roof pitch is 5-1/2".
For WRC shingle siding, the exposure typically ranges from 5-1/2" to 7". Although this is primarily an aesthetic decision, an installation exposure of 6" or less will provide triple layer coverage, essentially a roof installation on your sidewalls. This may be preferred in areas that are prone to extreme weather. A smaller exposure will require more material, which will increase the cost.
The images below show the appearance of Ecoshel #1 18" Shingle-strips installed at different exposures.

Ribbon coursing installation is the same as conventional installation, but with alternating wide and narrow exposures. The illustrations below show some possible exposure combinations in both lighter and darker semi-transparent stains.

Corner Boards work with other trim to create framed wall sections.
Woven corners use overlapping shingles that are trimmed flush. The overlap alternates from course to course.
